2020 VISION

2020 saw a vision re-vision.

The mind-blowingly swift pace that Covid-19 tore through the global populations, triggered off a mental alarm that re-opened my eyes to the vivid aliveness of the natural world. Covid iso-walks through my local streets, feeling detached from previous routines and commitments, breathing in the rich autumn colours, then breathing it out as intense acrylic paintings.

Iso-walk time became a daily ritual of moving meditations, although not in the sense of unattached calm. My perception held an intence focus, my senses were alive to the riot of colour opposites leaping out. I became aware that this virus vividly stakes its claim in our psyche, human evolution and earth’s ecology.

As Covid restrictions lessoned, then my iso-walks expanded beyond suburban streets into the bush, where nature presented its macro / micro details. Surrounded by such precious purity, I realised that plastic acrylic paints could no longer be a part of my art making, so I started painting with earth ochres that I found during my walks.

During the Victorian State lockdowns, my painting colour palette morphed from bright contrasting hues, to harmonised earth tones.
2020 was a RE-VISION of our lives.
