This is the 1st panel of a triptych, painted with watercolours that I hand made using rare vivianite mineral pigment.
The blue and green are different vivianite rocks, sustainably sourced from the Victorian coast. The rocks are pounded into powder, mixed with gum arabic and glycerine, then hand mulled to bind the ingredients into paint.
I then added a splash of brown rust, made from soaking old nails in water, paint onto pure cotton rag paper, then sprinkle on rock salt to make extra pattern. The raw materials are an important aspect of this environmentally non-toxic series. It is a deep honour to engage with such pure substances.
