This native owl is Australia’s largest, hence its name: Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua).
I painted this bird as a celebration of the recent sightings of the owl in Woowookarung Regional Park, in the bush suburb of Canadian, Ballarat, Victoria.
This park holds a heart-warming story of people-power. The bush-land was under threat of being developed into housing estates, but local environmentalist’s recognised its value and lobbied hard to save it. Now the flora and fauna are returning untold treasures.
The paints, I made from earth pigments. The beauty of which, is that these natural paints are non-toxic, eco-friendly, 100% archival, UV stable and are what traditional human cultures used throughout antiquity.
